What I do

My Job
My job is my dream job - working for my church and getting to share the love of Jesus with kids!  Whether it’s through Sunday School, AWANA, Vacation Bible School, Camp, or lots of other opportunities, we believe that kids learn through their play, and if we’re smart that’s how we teach them!

About Me

My background
I’m married to Chuck and we have 3 teenage daughters.  (Yes, those are some grey hairs you see.)  We’ve been FBC members since 1998 and I came on staff in 2006.  I’m originally from Hueytown, Alabama and I have a Counseling and Guidance degree from the University of Montevallo.

Why I Follow Christ
Jesus is my Rock.  Everything good I have is from Him.  Why would I want to follow anyone or anything else?

Ask me about
Wonder Woman!  I love superheroes, Star Wars, Star Trek, and most areas of geekdom.  My husband also says I have a baking addiction.  I don't think it's a problem.

FBC Kids covers a lot of ground at First Baptist!  From Sunday School to Children’s Church to AWANA to Camp to Vacation Bible School to lots more… we just want to help kids connect with God.  Our loving leaders use fun and interactive lessons and activities to reach children right where they are emotionally, developmentally, and of course spiritually.  Our goal is not to be the ultimate spiritual authority in a child’s life, but rather to partner with and equip a kids’ best spiritual asset – their family.

For a super-easy way to keep up with week to week stuff for your kids, just "like" our FBC Kids Facebook page at facebook.com/kidsrichmondhill

FBC Kids - Making God Big Through Loving Jesus, Belonging, and Serving Others!

We know that coming to a new place can be stressful to both parents and kids, so here’s some information that can help make transitions smoother.  (Smoother transitions = Happier Kids.  Happier Kids = Happier Mommies and Daddies.  SCORE!)

Whether you’re coming on Sunday morning for Sunday School or Children’s Church, or on a Wednesday night for AWANA, your best place to start is at the hub – the Family Life Center desk!  The Family Life Center is the building farthest to the back of campus, park in the big parking lot across from the Kroger gas station and come on in!

Good things for you to know:

  • Please arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of service time.  You’ll be filling out security tags for your preschoolers on a Sunday.  On a Wednesday you’ll fill out a once per year AWANA Registration Form for each child.
  • Safety and security are very important to us.  All of our volunteers are background checked and are trained in our Policies and Procedures.
  • If you have a little one who is crying or upset at drop off, take heart!  If we cannot calm down your child in 15 minutes we’ll come let you know.  That doesn’t mean you have to come get your child, but that way if you don’t hear from us, you can know that your child is doing fine.  If a child cries, stops crying, and then starts again, we start the 15 minutes over.  We know that in order for you to enjoy and engage where you are, you have to feel comfortable that your precious kiddos are well cared for.  They will be.

Kids learn through their play so we have a ton of fun here at First Baptist Church Richmond Hill teaching them about God!  Honestly it doesn’t happen by accident.  Even the littlest ones can experience that church is a good and safe place.  Children are precious to God and we know that.

What I do

My Job
I oversee many facets involved in the weekly running of our Awana program. About Me

My Background
I began attending First Baptist Church in 1982. My husband Clifford and I were married in the original sanctuary (now the youth bldg.) in 1986. We have two wonderful sons, Robbie and Jonathan. I work as a Physical Therapist for the Fort Stewart School System during the week.

Why I Follow Christ
I have believed in Christ for as long as I can remember but I was just going through the motions (doing what I was taught was right) for many years. I recommitted my life to Christ in 1998 and finally began to grow as a believer. Now I choose to put my trust in Christ in all situations. I know without a doubt that he loves and accepts me even on days when I’m at my worst.

Ask me about
The many opportunities available for you to serve in Awana and beachcombing for shark’s teeth.

AWANA is out for the summer but we'll be back in Fall of 2017!

Wednesday nights are hopping at FBCRH with AWANA available for 3 year olds through 6th graders from 6:30-8:00pm from September through mid-May!  AWANA  (which stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed, based on the scripture 2 Timothy 2:15) is a well-respected, worldwide  ministry.  Plus it’s fun!

The program is divided by age into Cubbies, Sparks, Ultimate Adventure, and Ultimate Challenge (formerly known as T&T.)

Cubbies is for kiddos who were age 3 by September (and potty trained) and for Pre-K aged kiddos.  A night at Cubbies includes Storytime where the kids have an age-appropriate Bible lesson, Craft Time, Snack time, and Bible verse time.  The evening flies by!  Aside from learning great stuff from the Bible, we want these kids to learn through experience that church is a good place and fun place.

Sparks is for kindergarten -2nd graders.  A night in Sparks includes Welcoming Ceremonies in the gym,  a really fun Game Time, Storytime where they have a fun Bible lesson, and classroom time where they go over their Bible verses that they’ve been working on at home.  Again, the evening flies because we’re having fun.

Ultimate Adventure & Ultimate Challenge are for 3rd – 6th graders and is divided by gender.  A night at UA/UC includes Welcoming Ceremonies in the gym, Council Time where the kids have a great, age appropriate Bible lesson, Game Time in the gym, and Handbook Time where they work with their leaders on Bible verses they’ve been practicing at home.

Online registration will be available here later for the 2017/2018 year.

Payment?  Payment options include credit cards, check, and cash.  We can spread out payments over time as well, or we'll just cover it if necessary. While there is a financial investment in AWANA, no child will ever be turned away for financial reasons. If you feel you are not in a position to purchase AWANA supplies at any time, please contact Lynn Altman directly to discuss this.

PARENTS CAN STAY CONNECTED to what's happening in AWANA by "liking" our Facebook page at facebook.com/awanaonthehill and/or subscribing to once per week auto-texts by sending the message @rhawana to the number 81010.

The AWANA website is a wealth of information including a section just for parents.

CentriKid Camps meet all over the Southeast, and we attended in Norman Park, GA.  The kids last summer experienced FANTASTIC times of worship, large group games, small group Bible lessons and activities, a large choice of extra-curricular “tracks”, as well as time with our church group.  Plus, Centrikid is the home of a game called OMC – Organized Mass Chaos!  The entire camp plays this fun game at the same time and it’s EPIC.  I can’t tell you how great this camp was!

This summer 2017 we are attending CentriKid June 26-30 at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, NC. The cost is $299 per camper.

Currently CentriKid Camp is SOLD OUT so we cannot add any additional campers. However if you are interested, please let us know and we can let you know if a spot becomes available.

Children's Church will be taking a break for the summer of 2017 starting June 11th, and will return in August!

We will have Kid Packets available for your children during both Sunday morning worship services, to help them engage in the worship service and have something to do with their hands. (Some kiddos can't "hear" if they can't move something!)

When Children's Church for 1st - 3rd Graders Returns in August ...
1st - 3rd graders start off in the Worship Center worshipping with the parents (or with the CC leaders, for unattended kiddos). After the musical portion of the service, kids are dismissed to follow leaders to the Children's Church room in the Kids' Building. Parents attending the 11:15 service can pick their children up from room E125 (or possibly the gym, right across the hallway.) Children's Church kids not picked up by 10:10 following the 9:00 service will be walked to their age-appropriate Sunday School class.

Preschool Sunday School (Babies – kindergarten) - 9:00, 10:10, and 11:15 weekly.1st – 5th grade Sunday School - 10:10 each Sunday, ending at 11:10.

We use Think Orange curriculum to help our kids learn more about God and connect with Him.  Our 2’s – kindergarteners use “First Look” lessons where the activities make mastering the concepts a blast. Crazy fun activities to crafts to video storytime and worship time, it’s all part of the plan to help a child believe three key things by the end of kindergarten:

  • God made me.
  • God loves me.
  • Jesus wants to be my friend forever.

Our 1st – 5th graders use “252 Basics” from Think Orange, to equip them with some basic truths.   We want each child to really “get” three basic truths modeled by Jesus in Luke 2:52 (Now you know what the 252 means!):

  • I need to make the wise choice.
  • I can trust God no matter what.
  • I should treat others the way I want to be treated.

Sunday School Particulars:

  • Please pick up your 1st-5th graders from Sunday School by 11:10.  (Children’s Church is available in the 11:15 worship service – The Gathering – and your kids sit with you until the last song during the musical portion of the service.)
  • Preschoolers can stay through multiple hours without being picked up between services.
  • All babies – kindergarten kids need a security tag each Sunday morning.  These sticker tags are available at the Family Life Center desk and at the Baby Room desk.
