About Me

My Background

I was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. I went to Auburn University where I was a local director at a "Youth For Christ" in East Alabama. Moving back home, I spent the first 10 years of ministry in Huntsville. During that time I received my Master of Divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Before moving to Richmond Hill I was involved in planting a church.

Why I Follow Christ
I follow Christ because when I am the king of my life I inherently mess everything up. With Jesus firmly in control I am free!

Ask me about
Be careful what you ask me...I am an open book. Try asking why my car tag says "Fray."

What I Do

  • Worship Pastor

My Job

The Lord has called me to serve Him through the gifts of music, teaching, and mentoring others to worship, lead, and serve Him to build up the body of Christ. Leading others in worship is not a right; it is a great privilege, which we must not take for granted. I believe the future of the church is in intergenerational worship. "One generation shall commend Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts" (Psalm 145:4)

About Me

My Background

I am married to the love of my life, Debra. We have three grown children and five grandchildren. I received Christ as my personal Savior as a young child and felt the call to ministry as a teenager. I earned my bachelor's degree from Indiana University, my master's degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological seminary, and my doctorate from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Before coming to FBC Richmond Hill, I served as worship pastor in other states including NC and FL. I also served as the Associate Dean of Graduate Music Studies at Liberty University.

Why I Follow Christ

I owe Him my all. Jesus Christ is the center of my life and my hope for eternity. When Christ calls us to follow Him, it is the most important decision we make. As Dietrich Bonhoeffer says, "It is costly because it cost a man his life, and it is grace because it gives a man the only true life."

Ask Me About

Anything music, literature, worship, Kentucky.

About Me

My background
My husband, Lonnie and I were married in 1980 in my hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina, 36 years ago. We have two adult children; Elizabeth and Michael. Being part of the U.S. Coast Guard service is what brought us to Richmond Hill in 2000, we became members of First Baptist during that year. I began volunteering monthly by helping mail out the church newsletter; then in 2002, I started working on staff. I am so amazed at how God continues to bless and use me for his glory here at First Baptist.

Why I Follow Christ
I made the decision at the age of twelve to follow Christ, as I grew up I allowed the things of the world to be first in my life. I still believed in Him and would pray to Him, but a daily relationship was missing. After years of sadness, hopelessness, and misery, then one day knowing how desperate I was by not following Jesus, I decided in my mind and my soul to trust Him, to live for Him. I remember the day so vividly; a happy, peaceful day knowing I have someone to help me and guide me through my life.

Ask me about
My 86 year old mom, Frankie Mae, she means so much to me! She took me to church, taught me about Jesus and showed me how to have a servant's heart. God has blessed us and shown just how faithful He is to His children.

What I do

  • Information Assistant
  • Receptionist

My Job
I greet visitors either on the phone or in person, answer questions about events or connect them with someone in the church, and coordinate with staff and church members about calendar events. Occasionally we assist homeless people with food, a shower, or financial aid. I order supplies, take prayer requests, and keep up with the updates. I have to multi-task many times throughout the day; Stop and Go! One of my job's perks is sometimes I get a chance to pray with people who are in need and prayer is the only answer!

About Me

My Background
Rob and I were married in 1991 and we have two teenagers. We decided to stay in Richmond Hill when he was offered a civilian job after serving 10 years active duty with the US Coast Guard. We enjoy living so close to two great tourist areas- Savannah and Hilton Head Island. We also love that we live so close to family in Jacksonville, Florida, which makes it easy to visit often.

Why I Follow Christ
I grew up in a Christian home and have always had a very close relationship with the Lord. I couldn’t imagine living life without the Lord. No matter what you go through, He is there to bring peace and direction, if we only take the time to pray and wait for an answer. Prayer does work! Whatever it is, God is interested in the little stuff of life too!

Ask me about
Anything!!! I WILL find the answer! And if I don’t know the answer, I will find someone who does and get right back with you.

About Me

My background
My wife Cheryl and I have lived in Richmond Hill almost all of our married life and chose this community because of its family centered values. We are blessed with two girls; Katelyn and Bailea who remind us daily of how good God is to us.  You can find us during the weekday working at St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital and on the weekend with our hands in the soil.

Why I Follow Christ
Although I have always know our Lord and Savior, it wasn’t until I met my wife that I truly became a Christian.  What began as a simple prayer to make me a better man, has become a way of life for me and my family. While I am far from perfect, I serve a Lord that is just and willing to forgive. He has blessed me with far more than I deserve and paid the ultimate sacrifice for my sins.  How could I not put all of my faith our Lord?

Ask me about
I believe that the mission for the First Touch Ministry is to demonstrate Christ’s love by opening our doors and welcoming all who come wanting to know more about Him.  Please ask me how you can get connected to God through our Church and how you too could serve through our First Touch Ministry.

Committees

Members on each committee are asked to serve by the Nominating Committee and are chosen based on selection criteria that includes commitment to Bible Study, participation in congregational worship, service, and stewardship. Members are asked to commit to three years of service on each committee.

For more information on any of our committees please contact the church office.  To volunteer for service on a committee send us a volunteer form and we will get in touch with you.

About Me

My Background
I am married to Melanie and have three great “young adult” kids.  I have been a member at First Baptist for  years and am one of three Georgia Tech Alumni at the church.  I am a graduate of Georgia Tech (Aerospace Engineering) and Mercer University (MBA).  I have worked the last 30+ years in the aviation industry by following development projects around the country (Kansas, Texas, Tennessee and Georgia).  I was born and raised in the boonies of South Carolina to wonderful Christian parents who have instilled in me a learning and work ethic that has served me well.

Why I Follow Christ
He died that an unworthy person might live – me.

Ask me about
Woodworking, gardening, antiques, books (Sci-Fi and History), hiking.

Deacons are role models for Christ-like compassionate care. The word “deacon” comes from the Greek word “diakonos” and means “one who serves." It is the same word used by Jesus when He spoke of Himself: For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many. (Mark 10:45)

At First Baptist Church RIchmond Hill, Deacons are ordained by the church to embody Christ’s love by demonstrating leadership in serving people in need, both within and beyond the community of faith. Deacons assist the pastor by ministering to God's people through serving, visiting, caring for, calling on, and praying for church members.  They lead the church by their commitment to serving and by their example of faithfulness to Christian living.

Deacons Can Help!  Do you need prayer?  Call your deacon! Do you need answers to questions about church life?  Call your deacon!  Do you need  compassionate and Biblical advice?  Call your deacon!  Do you need someone to visit you in the hospital or pray for a family member? Call your deacon!

About Me

My Background

Robin, my wife of 36 years, our Son, Adam and I have been members since God call us here in 1998, shortly after the death of our Daughter, April at the age of 10. The love of his Church at First Baptist confirmed that calling.  I accepted Christ 6 months after the birth of Adam. I had it in my mind the need to clean up before receiving the most important gift in the world. Upon realizing I could not clean up my dark blots, but Jesus would. I made that decision.

Why I Follow Christ
Jesus loving me much more than imaginable, imparted His righteousness to my soul as He accepted the punishment for my sins.

Ask me about
Answered prayers I’ve experienced, car shows, Sugar White Sand of my home town Panama City Florida, medical stuff I learned from my Children.

What I do

My Job
I recall one the main principles from an "Experiencing God" study a few years back.  Simply "Find where God is at work and join Him".  I see Christ at work in our church and am excited that my family and I can be a part.  As a unified group of believers we have a lot to offer our community if we keep our focus on Christ and simply share Him.

Micah 6:8  And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God?

About Me

My Background
Our family moved to Richmond Hill in 2010 from Oklahoma when I took a job at Savannah National Wildlife Refuge.  I manage the fire program for Refuges in Georgia and South Carolina and my wife (KK) teaches at Carver Elementary.  KK and I have two kids, our son is just finishing up college in Oklahoma and our daughter is in Middle School here in Richmond Hill.  I grew up in Arkansas and have been blessed with work that I love being a firefighter for US Fish & Wildlife Service and traveling around the country “playing with fire”.  We are thrilled with living on the Georgia coast and enjoy most any outdoor activity and the deep history of the area.

Why I Follow Christ
Because Christ really is who he claimed to be and the Bible is not just another historic text.  As I grow older, I realize more and more that the only way to find lasting fulfillment is to live for Him rather than myself.
